On June 12th 2024, after CATT Testing and Validation Center in Germany, CATL Testing and Validation Center in Ningde obtained the complete module testing and cell testing laboratory qualification certification from Volkswagen AG (hereinafter referred to as "Volkswagen") at an awarding ceremony in CATL's headquarters in Ningde, east China's Fujian Province. The certification officer from Volkswagen and the deputy director of CATL Testing and Validation Center attended the ceremony. Mr. Eduardo Bento, the department head of Battery Testing and Quality from Volkswagen also joined the ceremony online. So far, CATL has become the first battery company in the world to obtain certification for both cell and module testing from Volkswagen, and also the only company with Volkswagen Certified Laboratory in Europe. 

Volkswagen has long been renowned for its stringent quality and safety standards, and the VW testing laboratory qualification certification is one of the most prestigious in the world. VW started to develop enterprise standards for EV batteries as early as 2009, after more than a decade of development, the PV test standards encompasses 200 cell test items and more than 100 module test items, covering multiple dimensions including performance, safety, mechanical and environmental test. Some of the mechanical or safety test standards are 7 times more stringent than the GB standard or other international standards, and the passing standard of battery life test is 2 times higher than GB standard or other international standards. Volkswagen provides valuable advice on battery R&D and testing based on its expertise in strict quality control, safety requirements, performance specifications, environmental regulations, and recycling standards. Even at the end of the product life cycle (EOW/EOL), it has laid down clear specifications for battery's safety and performance testing, which further enhances the competitiveness and reliability of battery products.

At the awarding ceremony, the chief auditor Dr. Uwe Westerhoff spoke highly of the advanced techniques, equipment and management level of CATL Testing and Validation Center. Dr. Yuzhuan Su, deputy director of CATL Testing and Validation Center, said that CATL keeps up with the development of test standards in the industry, and constantly improves its supporting testing and management capabilities, which not only meets the current test standards, but also prepares the company well for new standards, new systems and new platform products to ensure the battery products will be strictly validated before being marketed.

Volkswagen and CATL always have a deep cooperation in the testing field. CATL had obtained the cell testing lab qualification in 2021, became the first battery company certified by Volkswagen in the world. For the past few years, CATL has provided testing resources for the development of Volkswagen's new platform battery by continuously improving testing capability.
